Chapter 15 - Returning to the Main HouseThree days after signing the restructuring agreement with Barclays, the legal transition was officially complete. The commercial contractors had erected a temporary wooden security partition sealing off the west wing and the stables from the main residential quarters of Wrenford Hall.

The main house belonged entirely to the Hartleys once more.

On a bright, breezy Wednesday afternoon, Daniel, Mara, and Persephone walked up the grand gravel driveway toward the heavy oak front doors for the first time in weeks.

The brass ring shone brightly in the sunlight. The air around the portico was silent—no catering vans, no luxury sports cars, no strangers wandering across the lawn. Just the quiet rustle of the ancient elm trees overhead.

Daniel pulled a heavy brass key from his pocket—the residential master key that bypassed all the commercial locks Celia had installed—and slid it into the lock.

Click.

The door swung open smoothly, revealing the grand entrance hall.

The marble floors gleamed in the afternoon light filtering through the tall arched windows. The heavy floral perfumes and commercial catering equipment were entirely gone, replaced by the clean, crisp scent of polished wood and fresh air.

Persephone gasped, stepping inside and spinning around in a wide circle on the marble tiles, her bright laughter echoing off the high ceiling.

"It's quiet," she whispered, looking up at her father with wide, wondering eyes.

"It's quiet," Daniel agreed, walking over and kneeling down beside her, wrapping one arm around her shoulders while holding Mara’s hand with the other. "And it's all ours, Sephie. Every single room."

They walked through the house together—past the drawing room where no meetings would ever be held, past the library where books could finally sit unbothered, and out through the French doors toward the sunlit gardens.

The shadows of the past were gone, dissolved by truth, courage, and the unyielding warmth of a family made whole again.
