"My Husband Told Everyone I Was Dead—Then I Found Him Living With Another Family"
CHAPTER 1: THE WOMAN WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD
Valeria turned slowly.
The woman standing behind her looked to be in her early fifties, dressed in a black housekeeping uniform. Fear flickered across her face.
"What did you say?" Valeria whispered.
The woman swallowed.
"Mr. Vance told everyone here that his wife died six months ago. He said it was tragic. A car accident."
The words struck harder than any physical blow.
Dead.
Julian hadn't merely erased her from his life.
He had buried her.
Valeria looked back into the ballroom.
The little boy was laughing.
The brunette smiled as Julian spun him around.
Not one of them looked guilty.
Not one of them looked like they were hiding a secret.
Because to them, there was no secret.
To them, she no longer existed.
"Who is she?" Valeria asked.
The housekeeper hesitated.
"Her name is Celeste Harrington. The boy is Ethan."
The name meant nothing.
Yet somehow it hurt.
Because Julian clearly knew everything about them.
While Valeria knew nothing.
A voice suddenly echoed through the ballroom.
"Daddy! Again!"
Daddy.
The little boy had called Julian Daddy.
Valeria's knees nearly gave out.
Julian had always told her he didn't want children.
For eight years he had insisted they wait.
Focus on careers.
Build wealth.
Travel first.
Every excuse imaginable.
And now he was playing father to another woman's child.
Something cold settled inside her.
Not grief.
Not heartbreak.
Something far more dangerous.
Clarity.
She stepped into the ballroom.
The laughter stopped instantly.
Julian turned.
The color drained from his face.
The little boy slid from his arms.
For several seconds nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
Nobody spoke.
Then Celeste frowned.
"Julian?"
His lips parted.
"Valeria..."
The sound of her name seemed foreign coming from him.
The little boy looked confused.
"Daddy, who's that lady?"
Valeria watched Julian panic.
Watched him search desperately for a lie.
A story.
An escape.
But for the first time in years, she wouldn't let him control the narrative.
She held up the divorce decree.
"Maybe," she said calmly, "your husband would like to explain."
Celeste's expression froze.
"MY husband?"
The silence that followed was deafening.
And then everything exploded.
Within twenty minutes, security had been called.
Celeste was screaming.
Julian was begging.
The little boy was crying.
And Valeria finally learned the truth.
Julian had married Celeste three years earlier.
Legally.
Bigamously.
Using forged documents.
He had maintained two separate lives.
Two homes.
Two families.
Two identities.
And somehow he had convinced each woman that she was the only wife.
But the worst revelation came next.
Marcus Thorne arrived carrying a thick black folder.
And inside were documents proving that Julian's deception was only one piece of a much larger crime.
Julian hadn't targeted Valeria for love.
He had targeted her for money.
From the beginning.
Every anniversary.
Every vacation.
Every shared dream.
Every promise.
May you like
It had all been part of a plan.
And now the plan was collapsing.
