Chapter 1: The Fall
The scream echoed through the house before Ethan saw his wife.
He dropped the grocery bag in his hands and ran toward the staircase.
At the bottom, Olivia lay curled on the hardwood floor, one arm wrapped around her stomach. Tiny baby clothes were scattered around her like confetti from a nightmare.
His younger brother, Derek, stood at the top of the stairs with his arms crossed.
"Move, you pathetic burden!"
The words were still hanging in the air.
Olivia looked up at Ethan through tears.
"My baby…"
Ethan dropped to his knees beside her, panic clawing at his chest.
And then he heard it.
As Ethan checked Olivia’s pulse, something caught his eye.
An iPhone lay near the base of the stairs.
The screen was still glowing.

He picked it up with trembling hands.
The video had captured everything.
Derek’s shove.
Olivia’s fall.
The moment she slammed into the floor.
Ethan’s fear turned into a cold, focused rage.
"She's fine, stop the drama,"
Derek called down.
Ethan slowly stood.
He raised the phone toward the men on the staircase.
"You kicked my pregnant wife,"
he said.
At the emergency room, doctors rushed Olivia into an examination suite.
Ethan sat outside gripping the phone so tightly his knuckles turned white.
After what felt like hours, a doctor emerged.
"Your wife is stable. The baby is alive."
Ethan nearly collapsed with relief.
But the doctor wasn’t finished.
"We found signs of repeated stress-related complications. Has your wife been under unusual pressure?"
Ethan frowned.
"What kind of pressure?"
The doctor hesitated.
"The kind that doesn’t happen overnight."
Olivia revealed that Derek had been threatening her for months.
It had started with insults.
Then intimidation.
Then demands that she convince Ethan to sign over part of his inheritance.
Inheritance?
Ethan stared at her.
His father had always claimed the family business was struggling. He’d pressured Ethan to surrender his shares to “save the company.”
Olivia reached into her bag and handed him a folded document.
Bank statements.
