CHAPTER 2: The Fall of Vale Enterprises

Five minutes later, Adrian’s phone began to ring. His confident expression faded as notification after notification flashed across his screen. His face turned pale, and his hands began to shake.
The messages were not threats. They were cancellations.
00:01 — Vanguard Capital cancels $400M investment line.
00:03 — Central Reserve Bank freezes all Vale Corp operational accounts pending immediate audit.
00:04 — Board of Directors demands emergency midnight session.
In less than five minutes, the empire Adrian Vale had spent seven years constructing began to collapse.
“What did you do?” Adrian whispered, staring at me as if I had suddenly transformed into a stranger.
I slowly stood up from the cold marble floor, ignoring the sharp pain radiating down my spine. “I reminded you who built the foundation beneath your throne.”
Vanessa’s smile faded. “Adrian, she’s bluffing. She’s just a nobody. She’s trying to scare us.”
But Adrian knew better. Before I became his quiet wife, my father, Richard Laurent, was the most feared titan in global finance. When I fell in love with Adrian, I asked my father to scrub my real identity from public records. I wanted to know if Adrian loved me or the Laurent name. For three years, I watched him rise, taking credit for opportunities my father quietly orchestrated behind the scenes.
Adrian grabbed his phone, frantically calling key executives. One by one, the calls went straight to voicemail.
Suddenly, the mansion’s integrated audio system hummed to life. My father’s voice filled the room, calm, heavy, and absolute.
“Adrian Vale,” Richard Laurent said, his voice echoing off the walls. “You mistook my daughter’s silence for weakness.”
Adrian froze. Vanessa backed away, her hands trembling.
I walked toward the staircase and picked up the folder Adrian had thrown earlier. Inside were not just divorce papers, but fraudulent asset transfers rerouting Vale Corp funds into Vanessa’s offshore shell company.
“You didn’t just betray your wife, Adrian,” I said, looking him in the eye. “You committed corporate treason against your own shareholders.”
Before Adrian could speak, his phone chimed once more. A message appeared from an unknown number. The screen lit up with a single sentence:
May you like
“Your father lied to you. Ask him why he really wanted Adrian destroyed.”
I stared at the screen, a sudden chill running down my spine. This war was bigger than my marriage. And my father was hiding something.
