Chapter 19 - The New FoundationFor five months, the building transformed under Chloe’s absolute direction.

She hired local female contractors, woodworkers, and artists. The dark mahogany and heavy velvet that Damian had used to create a oppressive, intimidating atmosphere were ripped out entirely. In their place came floor-to-ceiling glass, natural white oak, hand-blown glass light fixtures, and walls covered in living green plants and warm botanical murals.
She renamed the establishment Aura.
Every detail—from the weight of the silver forks to the texture of the linen napkins and the custom typography on the menus—was designed by Chloe’s own hands.
The kitchen was redesigned with state-of-the-art ventilation, open prep stations, and a dedicated dining space for the staff, complete with a signed pledge mounted near the entrance guaranteeing fair wages, safe working conditions, and profit-sharing for every employee.
On the night before the grand opening, Chloe, Robert, and I stood in the center of the radiant dining room.
The space was bathed in warm, golden light. The air smelled of fresh jasmine, woodsmoke, and roasted herbs.
Robert raised his glass of sparkling cider. "To the woman who turned a prison into a palace."

"To the mother who never gave up," Chloe added, looking at me with tears of gratitude in her eyes. "And to the simple truth that no cage lasts forever."
We clinked our glasses together, the sound clear and bright against the quiet beauty of the room.
