Chapter 14 - The Insider’s ConfessionThe defense’s cross-examination had imploded on national television, but the trial’s turning point came on the third day with an unexpected witness called by the federal prosecution.

The courtroom doors swung open, and Maya Whittaker walked down the center aisle.

She looked fragile, dressed in a simple dark sweater, her face pale and drawn. But unlike the terrified girl who had sobbed in the hospital recovery ward weeks ago, Maya walked with a quiet, resolute dignity. She took the witness box and swore the oath.

Sarah Sterling stepped up to the podium. “Ms. Whittaker, please state your relationship to the defendant and your involvement with Whittaker Biotech.”

“Richard Whittaker is my father,” Maya said, her voice trembling slightly before steadying. “And I was a primary beneficiary of the corporate research division.”

“Tell the court, Maya,” Sarah prompted gently, “what did your father discuss regarding Claire’s genetic profile and the true purpose of the donor extraction?”

Maya swallowed hard, glancing briefly toward the defense table where Richard was shaking his head violently, mouthing silent threats.

“Dad... my father knew for months that his experimental gene-therapy vector, W-Bio-Vector 7, was failing in human trials because non-sibling test subjects experienced severe immunological rejection,” Maya testified, tears spilling over her lashes. “He needed a 99.9% matching sibling whose cellular architecture could act as a stable vector host. He didn't just need a kidney for me. He needed Claire’s complete biological blueprint to launch the commercial rollout of the drug without FDA clearance.”

“And who executed these directives?” Sarah asked.

“Dr. Harrison and the corporate legal team, under direct orders from my father and Evelyn,” Maya said clearly. “They forged the secondary consent waivers and administered the vector adjunct during Claire’s surgery while she was under anesthesia.”

Richard couldn't contain himself any longer. He slammed his hand against the defense table, standing up abruptly. “This is perjury! She’s lying! She’s being manipulated by the prosecution!”

“Order! Mr. Whittaker, sit down or I will have you removed from my courtroom in handcuffs!” Judge Sterling slammed her gavel down with thunderous force.

Federal marshals instantly stepped up behind Richard, forcing him back into his chair while his defense attorneys desperately tried to calm him down.

Maya looked down at her hands, taking a deep, shuddering breath. “I’m not lying, Dad. I’m just finally telling the truth.”
