PART 4: THE SECRET ALEXANDER HID

For several seconds…
Nobody moved.
Carmen’s words stayed in the room like poison.
Ask your ex-husband.
The sentence repeated in my mind.
I looked at Alexander.
The man who had spent the last twenty-four hours protecting our daughter.
The man who looked ready to destroy anyone who hurt her.
And for the first time…
I wondered what he wasn’t telling me.
“What does she mean?”
My voice was quiet.
But everyone heard.
Alexander didn’t answer immediately.
That scared me more than anything.
Because Alexander always had an answer.
Always.
Carmen smiled.
“There it is.”
She looked at him.
“You never told her, did you?”
Alexander’s face became cold.
“Leave.”
She laughed.
“You still think you can control the room.”
“No.”
His voice dropped.
“I’m giving you a chance to walk away.”
But Carmen didn’t move.
Instead, she turned to me.
“Your daughter isn’t the only person who was lied to.”
My heart tightened.
“What are you talking about?”
She looked at Alexander.
“Tell her.”
Silence.
Then Alexander finally spoke.
“Elena…”
The way he said my name made me nervous.
“What happened?”
He looked down.
For the first time…
I saw hesitation.
And Alexander Parker was never hesitant.
Not with business.
Not with people.
Not with anything.
“Years ago,” he said quietly.
“I made a mistake.”
A bitter laugh escaped me.
“A mistake?”
I looked at him.
“After everything tonight, that’s what you call it?”
He closed his eyes.
“You deserve the truth.”
Sofia watched him.
Confused.
“Dad?”
He looked at her.
Then back at me.
“Before I built my company…”
“I worked with Victor Rodriguez.”
The name hit me.
Carmen’s family.
My stomach turned.
“What?”
Alexander nodded.
“He was my business partner.”
“And then?”
His expression darkened.
“I discovered he was stealing from the company.”
Carmen crossed her arms.
“And he destroyed my father’s life.”
Alexander looked at her.
“Your father destroyed himself.”
She laughed.
“You always say that.”
A pause.
“But you never tell people what happened after.”
I looked at Alexander.
“What happened?”
He was silent.
Then:
“He threatened my family.”
The room became still.
“I reported him.”
“I cut ties.”
“He lost everything.”
I looked at Carmen.
“And she wanted revenge.”
Alexander nodded.
“Yes.”
Carmen smiled.
“Finally.”
“After all these years…”
“Finally, everyone knows.”
Sofia looked between them.
“So this was about revenge?”
Carmen’s eyes moved to her.
“Partly.”
Sofia frowned.
“Partly?”
That word changed everything.
Alexander stepped forward.
“Carmen.”
But she continued.
“No.”
She looked at Sofia.
“You deserve to know.”
My daughter went pale.
“Know what?”
Carmen smiled.
“That your husband didn’t choose you by accident.”
The room froze.
Javier immediately looked at his mother.
“Mom.”
But she ignored him.
“Sofia wasn’t just a woman with a condo.”
“She was Alexander Parker’s daughter.”
My heart sank.
I understood.
The target was never just the property.
It was us.
Our family.
Javier approached Sofia.
“Sofia, listen…”
She stepped away.
“You knew?”
He looked guilty.
“I…”
She shook her head.
“You knew.”
He lowered his eyes.
And that was enough.
My daughter’s face broke again.
Not from fear this time.
From betrayal.
Alexander looked at Javier.
“You used my daughter.”
Javier tried to defend himself.
“It wasn’t supposed to happen like this.”
Alexander’s expression hardened.
“What was the plan?”
Silence.
Javier couldn’t answer.
Because there was no excuse.
Carmen answered for him.
“The plan was simple.”
She smiled.
“Marriage.”
“Trust.”
“Transfer.”
“Then control.”
Every word felt like a knife.
I looked at Sofia.
My poor daughter.
She wasn’t just betrayed by a husband.
She was targeted.
Planned.
Chosen.
Alexander moved toward Carmen.
“You involved my daughter in your revenge.”
Carmen lifted her chin.
“You destroyed my family.”
“No.”
His voice was calm.
“Your choices did.”
For the first time…
Carmen looked uncertain.
Because she expected anger.
She expected shouting.
She expected chaos.
But Alexander wasn’t giving her that.
He was controlled.
And that frightened her.
Then the door opened.
Everyone turned.
A man stood there.
Older.
Gray hair.
Expensive coat.
I didn’t recognize him.
But Alexander did.
And his entire body went still.
“No.”
The stranger smiled.
“Hello, Alexander.”
My heart started racing.
“Who is that?”
Alexander didn’t answer.
The man looked at me.
Then Sofia.
Then smiled.
“My name is Victor Rodriguez.”
Carmen’s father.
The man behind everything.
Sofia stepped closer to me.
Alexander moved in front of us.
Victor laughed softly.
“Still protecting them.”
Alexander’s voice was cold.
“You should have stayed away.”
Victor smiled.
“You should have paid attention.”
A pause.
“Your daughter was always the easiest way to hurt you.”
Something inside me broke.
Because hearing someone talk about Sofia like a weapon…
Was unbearable.
Alexander’s fists tightened.
But before he could move…
Police sirens sounded outside.
Everyone froze.
Victor’s smile disappeared.
“What is this?”
Alexander looked at him.
“You’re not the only one who planned ahead.”
The doors opened.
Detectives entered.
Victor looked around.
“What did you do?”
Alexander answered calmly:
“I recorded everything.”
The detectives moved toward Victor.
Carmen screamed.
“No!”
But it was too late.
For the first time…
The Rodriguez family looked afraid.
The war they started was ending.
But before Victor was taken away…
He looked at me.
And said something that chilled my blood.
“Elena…”
A pause.
“You still don’t know the whole truth about Alexander.”
I turned toward my ex-husband.
And saw something I had never seen before.
Fear.
Not anger.
Not confidence.
Fear.
Because Victor’s final words weren’t a threat.
They were a warning.
And I realized…
The biggest secret in this story…
May you like
Might not belong to Carmen.
It might belong to Alexander.
