Naomi gave her first statement two days later.
Her attorney, a child advocate, and investigators attended.
Wren sat outside with Dr. Park and Rosa.
Naomi had worked at Halcyon Ridge for eighteen months.
She accepted the position because she needed health insurance and predictable hours after her husband died.
Daniel Hart had been a construction safety inspector.
Five years earlier, he was killed during a partial parking-garage collapse at another Ellison Meridian property.
The official report blamed hidden corrosion and unauthorized drainage work.
Naomi never believed the explanation was complete.
Daniel had reported cracking weeks earlier.
His photographs disappeared after his death.
Ellison Meridian settled with the family without admitting fault.
Naomi accepted the settlement because Wren was four and needed therapy after losing her father.
“I told myself survival was not silence,” Naomi said. “But it became silence.”
At Halcyon Ridge, she discovered the same vendor names connected to Daniel’s garage.
Northstar Glass.
Apex Monitoring.
Lark Safety.
Each company billed millions.
Each subcontracted actual work for a fraction of the amount.
During the pool renovation, the original stainless-steel support arms were supposed to be replaced.
Only two of six were changed.
The remaining arms were sanded, painted, and described as new.
Safety cables were invoiced but not installed according to specification.
Naomi reported the discrepancies to Adrian Cross.
He told her the final certification came from the corporate structural office.
The certificate carried Julian Ellison’s digital signature.
Naomi knew Julian had left the company years earlier.
She contacted his public architecture office.
No one responded because the message was routed to an abandoned general inbox.
Then she discovered Mara’s infrastructure case involving Ellison Meridian tax credits.
She sent the anonymous email.
“Who changed the meeting location?” investigators asked.
“I don’t know.”
“Who knew you planned to meet her?”
“Adrian.”
“Why tell him?”
“He saw me print the invoices.”
“Anyone else?”
“Victor Lane took my phone that morning after accusing me of photographing restricted mechanical areas.”
“Did you see the person above the pool?”
Naomi closed her eyes.
“I saw someone in a maintenance jacket near the upper catwalk.”
“Man or woman?”
“I couldn’t tell.”
“Did you see a face?”
“No.”
“What happened in the east corridor?”
“Victor told me Mara had already arrived. He said he would take me to her.”
“Then?”
“He pushed me through the service door. Adrian was inside.”
“What did they want?”
“The copied records.”
“Did you give them anything?”
“No.”
“Where were they?”
“With Wren.”
Naomi began crying.
She had placed the maintenance map and a small data drive inside Wren’s backpack because adults rarely searched a deaf child.
Adrian demanded the password to Naomi’s cloud files.
When she refused, someone injected her with a sedative.
She woke inside the concealed mechanical room.
“Did they say anything about Mara?”
“Victor said the lawyer would not be a problem after lunch.”
The statement did not prove what he meant.
It gave investigators another piece.
Police arrested Adrian Cross and Victor Lane on state allegations involving Naomi’s restraint, assault, evidence tampering, and related conduct. Financial and federal investigations proceeded separately.
Both pleaded not guilty.
Victor claimed Naomi was injured after attacking him.
Adrian said he believed she presented an internal theft threat and that security temporarily detained her lawfully.
No company policy authorized binding and sedating an engineer inside a hidden room.
The resort’s medical director denied supplying the drug.
A vial recovered from Victor’s locker matched Naomi’s toxicology result.
His attorney said the locker was accessible to others.
Wren’s data drive contained maintenance photographs, internal reports, and audio recordings.
One file captured Adrian speaking to Gabriel Ellison.
Naomi’s phone remained inside her bag during a meeting.
Adrian said:
“If Hart goes outside, the tax-credit audit connects to the trust work.”
Gabriel replied:
“Then keep her inside.”
The defense would argue metaphor.
Investigators considered context.
A second recording involved Conrad.
Naomi could not identify whether the voice was live or on speaker.
Conrad said:
“No closure before the family weekend.”
Adrian answered:
“The panel is moving.”
Conrad said:
“Then monitor it.”
No one mentioned Mara.

But Conrad knew the panel was unstable before inviting his pregnant daughter-in-law beneath it.
