She thought she successfully framed the nurse and fooled her husband. She forgot about the small camera hidden in the cabinet.
Chapter 1: The Shattered Glass and the Eye in the Sky
The high-end kitchen of the Sterling estate was designed for perfection—sub-zero refrigerators, polished quartz countertops, and deep navy cabinets that absorbed the morning light. But perfection shattered the moment the front French doors swung open with a violent, echoing bang.

Christian Sterling stood frozen on the threshold, his dark wool overcoat swirling around his knees, a silver travel suitcase dropping heavily from his grip onto the hardwood floor. His eyes darted across the devastation before him. On the floor lay Camilla, the private home-care nurse. Her blue scrubs were smudged with dust, a fresh, jagged scratch marred her cheek, and blood seeped from a nasty abrasion on her arm. She was gasping for air, curled defensively against the base of the island.
Standing over her, sobbing with theatrical hysteria, was Jessica, Christian’s golden-haired, silk-clad wife. Jessica’s hands flew to her face, her diamond rings catching the light as she pointed a trembling, manicured finger down at the nurse.
"Christian! Thank God you're back!" Jessica wailed, her voice cracking with manufactured terror. She rushed toward him, her face soaked in crocodile tears. "Your mother... she fell! Camilla lost control, she attacked me first, and—and she tried to push her!"
In the background, sitting helplessly in her wheelchair near the window, Christian’s elderly mother let out a soft, distressed whimper, her hands trembling as she tried to make sense of the chaos.
Camilla struggled to prop herself up on her elbows. Her dark curls were wild, her eyes wide with shock and fury. She looked past Jessica, her gaze locking onto Christian. As Christian’s face hardened into a mask of cold, terrifying suspicion, Camilla slowly lifted her hand.
She didn't point at Jessica. She pointed straight up.
Mounted neatly under the navy blue upper cabinet, partially concealed in the shadow of the molding, was a sleek, wide-angle smart security camera. The small blue indicator light blinked steadily, recording every single second of the horrific scene.

Jessica’s breath hitched. The high-pitched wail caught in her throat. The color drained from her face so fast she looked like a corpse. She slowly turned her head upward, her mouth opening in a silent, paralyzed scream.
Christian’s eyes followed Camilla’s finger. He didn't say a word. He didn't need to. The icy, suffocating silence that filled the kitchen was louder than any gunshot.
