Part 5 – Sophie Finally Speaks

Months of therapy slowly changed Sophie.
She smiled more.
She laughed.
She slept through the night.
But one afternoon she asked her therapist a question that shattered Richard.
"Am I allowed to be happy now?"
Richard stood outside the office door.
His heart broke all over again.
That night he sat beside Sophie's bed.
"I'm sorry."
"I should have protected you."
Sophie looked at him with quiet eyes.
"I know."
"You didn't see."
"But you came back."
She wrapped her tiny arms around him.
It was the first time she had hugged him without hesitation.
Meanwhile detectives arrested Victor while attempting to enter the country under a false identity.
Forensic investigators reconstructed Emily's crash.
Brake lines had been deliberately damaged.
It had never been an accident.
Vanessa was charged with conspiracy, child abuse, financial fraud, witness intimidation, and obstruction of justice.
Victor faced murder charges.
The entire country followed the trial.
When Sophie testified again...
she didn't look afraid.
She held her father's hand.
She answered every question clearly.
When the judge thanked her for her bravery, she whispered,
