Chapter 13 - The Master Lock"You have ten minutes before the noon press conference," Senator Vance said, his fingers trembling slightly as he stared at the red drive. "What are your demands? Money? A full medical trust for your son? Five million dollars in tax-free settlement funds?"

I looked at the powerful politician across the desk and felt a profound, quiet disgust. Men like Vance spent their entire lives believing that every crime, every broken body, and every stolen life had a cash price attached to it.

"My son's kneecaps cannot be bought with your dirty money, Senator," I said.

"Then what do you want?" Vance demanded, slamming his palm on the desk. "If you leak that drive, you burn down half the state legislature! Do you have any idea the chaos you'll cause?"

"I want three things," I said, leaning forward.

"Name them," Sterling interjected eagerly, pulling out a notepad.

"First," I held up one finger, "you will publicly withdraw your emergency motion to seal the evidence against Wade Barnes and Roy Miller. They will plead guilty to all federal charges without a plea bargain, and they will serve their full twenty-five-year sentences in a maximum-security federal facility."

Senator Vance swallowed hard. "Done."

"Second," I held up a second finger, "you will announce your immediate resignation from the State Senate, effective at noon today, citing health reasons, and surrender your law license to the state bar."

Vance’s jaw worked silently for five seconds. His lifelong political empire was evaporating before his eyes. "And the third?" he choked out.

"Third," I said, standing up and buttoning my suit jacket, "you will sign an irrevocable transfer deed turning over forty percent of the coalition’s seized real estate assets into a permanent, independent charitable trust for victims of police brutality and catastrophic injuries across this state—managed exclusively by Dr. Harold Donnelly and my wife, Sarah."

Sterling gasped. "That’s forty million dollars!"

"You have five minutes to sign the agreement, Senator," I said, pointing to the clock on his wall. "Or Viper hits 'send,' and the Department of Justice executes an arrest warrant on this office before your press conference begins."

Senator Vance looked at the red drive, then at my eyes—eyes that held no mercy, no hesitation, and no compromise.

Slowly, with a hand that shook violently, he reached for his golden fountain pen.
