Chapter 7 - The BroadcastBy 06:00 a.m., the freezing rain had subsided, leaving the streets of Livingston County slicked with black ice under a dull grey dawn.

Inside the quiet halls of Mercy General Hospital, Sarah sat by Tyler’s bedside. My son was awake, his face pale and sunken from five hours of reconstructive surgery, his legs immobilized in heavy metallic external fixator frames.

Suddenly, the small wall-mounted television in Trauma Bay Three flickered to life.

"We interrupt your regular morning broadcast for breaking news," the anchor’s voice rang out clearly. "In a stunning development out of Livingston County, leaked high-definition police dashcam footage has disproved initial official reports regarding the shooting of seventeen-year-old high school athlete Tyler Irwin."

Sarah gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. Tyler turned his head slowly toward the monitor.

The screen shifted to the brutal, crystal-clear footage recorded from Sheriff Barnes’s own cruiser. Across the state, millions of viewers watched in real-time as the corrupt sheriff dragged an unarmed teenager onto the asphalt, shot both of his knees with a twelve-gauge shotgun, and planted a weapon on his bleeding body.

"Furthermore," the anchor continued, her voice trembling slightly with emotion, "unsealed federal court documents released less than thirty minutes ago detail a massive conspiracy involving Livingston County Sheriff Wade Barnes, Police Union Representative Roy Miller, and County Judge Harrison Vance..."

Down the hall, Dr. Harold Donnelly stepped into the room, holding a tablet and wearing a rare, fierce smile.

"It's everywhere, Sarah," Harold said, his eyes glowing. "Every news station, every social media feed in the country. The Governor just held an emergency press conference. The State Police are taking over the county precinct."

Tyler stared at the screen, tears welling up in his dark eyes—not tears of pain, but of overwhelming, unbelievable relief.

"My dad..." Tyler whispered, his voice shaking. "My dad did this?"

Harold walked over, gently patting Tyler’s shoulder. "Your dad told you he’d mop it up, Tyler. And when Dennis Irwin mops a floor, he leaves it spotless."
