Chapter 12: The Verdict of Justice

The sentencing phase moved with relentless precision. One by one, the judge addressed the defendants who had systematically tried to erase my life and steal my child's future.

"Arthur Vance," the judge began, staring down from the bench with absolute sternness. "You used unimaginable cruelty against your pregnant wife, driven by unadulterated greed. For the charges of attempted murder and aggravated torture, you are hereby sentenced to thirty-five years in the state penitentiary without the possibility of early parole."

Arthur bowed his head, letting out a ragged sob as the bailiffs pulled him back into his seat.

"Richard Sterling," the judge continued. "You violated the sacred trust placed in you by a dying friend, abusing your position as an officer of the court to orchestrate the theft of millions and the attempted murder of an unborn child. You are sentenced to twenty-five years in federal custody and ordered to pay full restitution of all stolen trust assets."

Finally, the judge turned his eyes onto Evelyn Vance.

"Evelyn Vance," the judge said, his tone dropping into an icy register. "You showed a level of cold, calculating sociopathy that shakes the conscience of this community. You guided your own son into committing atrocities and sought to legally claim a child whose mother you were actively helping to murder. You will serve fifty years to life at the maximum-security correctional facility."

Evelyn gasped, her hand clutching at her chest. "This is a outrage! I am an innocent woman! She is insane!" she screamed as the bailiffs grabbed her arms.

"Take her away," the judge commanded.

The gallery erupted into frantic commotion as the three of them were led out through the heavy side doors. I watched them go, feeling no malice, no desire for revenge—only a deep, lingering sense of peace. The shadows that had haunted my nights were finally locked behind iron bars forever.
