Chapter 15 - The Unbroken DynastyThe High Council met in the private subterranean ballroom of the Plaza Hotel—a fortress of mahogany, leather, and bulletproof glass beneath Manhattan.

The room was filled with the heads of the five major families, their senior lieutenants, and legal representatives. The atmosphere was thick with cigar smoke and predatory tension.
When the heavy iron doors opened, conversation ceased instantly.
Gabriel walked into the room first, wearing a tailored black three-piece suit, his posture regal and imposing. But he didn't walk in alone.
I walked by his side, wearing a modest, elegant sapphire dress, holding Ben’s small hand. Flanking Gabriel on either side were Henry and Julian, both dressed in custom mini tuxedos, their dark hair neatly styled, their gray-green eyes scanning the room with calm, unbothered curiosity.
Gasps rippled across the council table.
"Gabriel," the elderly chairman, Don Carmine, spoke up from the head of the table, his bushy eyebrows rising in astonishment. "You bring your family to a Council meeting?"
"I bring my family to show you the future of the Cross empire," Gabriel declared, his voice echoing off the stone walls.
He didn't wait for an invitation. Gabriel sat at the head of the mahogany table, placing his hands flat on the polished wood. I sat to his right, and the three boys stood beside his chair, looking out at the most dangerous men in North America without a single trace of fear.
"There were rumors," Don Carmine said slowly, "that the Vale arrest compromised your operations. That you were distracted."
"The Vale arrest eliminated a corrupt politician who attempted to extort my family," Gabriel replied calmly, his eyes sweeping over the room, freezing every boss who met his gaze. "My shipping lines are operating at one hundred percent capacity. My legal team controls the waterfront. And my heirs..."
Gabriel reached down, placing a large, reassuring hand on Henry's shoulder.
"...my heirs are ready to inherit an empire that is stronger, wealthier, and more unified than it has ever been in its history."
Viktor Petrov, sitting across the table, narrowed his eyes. "And what guarantees do we have that your wife won't leave again? That your domestic affairs won't trigger another federal investigation?"
Gabriel stood up slowly, leaning over the table toward Viktor. The energy in the room shifted instantly, heavy and lethal.
"My wife is the co-owner of the Cross estate and every asset attached to my name," Gabriel stated, his voice ringing with absolute, terrifying authority. "An attack on her, or an insult to her dignity, is a declaration of war against the entire Cross syndicate. If anyone in this room doubts my resolve..."
Gabriel reached into his coat, pulled out an iron seal representing the family’s supreme authority, and slammed it onto the mahogany table.
"...challenge me now."
Silence descended upon the subterranean room. Absolute, unbroken silence.
Not a single boss moved. Not a single lieutenant spoke. Viktor Petrov swallowed hard and slowly lowered his gaze to the table.
Don Carmine looked at Gabriel, then at me, and finally at the three identical boys standing tall beside their father. A slow, respectful smile crept onto the old man's face.
"The Council acknowledges the Cross dynasty," Don Carmine declared, raising his glass of wine. "To Gabriel, Claire, and the future of the empire."
Every boss at the table raised their glass in unison.
As we walked out of the Plaza Hotel an hour later into the cool Manhattan night, Henry pulled on Gabriel’s coat sleeve.
"Dad?" Henry asked as Gabriel lifted him into the back of the armored sedan.
"Yes, little man?" Gabriel asked, looking down at his son with unyielding warmth.
"Did we win?"
Gabriel looked across the leather seat at me, his eyes shining with a deep, permanent peace that no amount of money or power could ever buy. He reached out, taking my hand and lacing his fingers through mine.

"Yes, Henry," Gabriel whispered, kissing the top of my head as the doors closed, sealing us in safety. "We won everything."
