CHAPTER 9: ELEANOR'S TRIAL
The trial of Eleanor Vance lasted three weeks, dominating international news headlines.
Day after day, state prosecutors laid out the overwhelming mountains of evidence my father and I had gathered: forged wills, wire transfers to Zurich, smuggled medical records, and audio recordings of Eleanor negotiating with cartel representatives.
On the final day of testimony, Eleanor took the stand in her own defense, still trying to project an aura of aristocratic elegance.
"My daughter-in-law is a calculating liar who engineered this entire circus to steal my family's legacy!" Eleanor shouted at the jury box.
My attorney simply stood up and pressed PLAY on the courtroom projector.
A video recorded from Eleanor's own security feed three nights before the birthday dinner filled the massive screens. Eleanor's voice echoed loudly through the courtroom:
"Once the lien clears, we'll make sure Clara takes the fall for the missing investor funds. If she complains, we'll have her committed to an institution just like we did with Arthur's medical records."
