Chapter 14 - The Return to Gate 14Two years after the flight that had changed her life, sixteen-year-old Zara Coleman walked down the bustling concourse of Terminal 8 at JFK Airport in New York.

She was dressed in a simple navy wool coat, dark trousers, and sneakers, carrying her burgundy leather duffel bag across her shoulder.

She reached Gate 14.

The glass-and-granite counter was busy with passengers boarding Flight 212 to London Heathrow.

Standing behind the desk checking tickets was Lead Gate Agent Sarah Miller.

Zara stepped up to the line, holding her newly printed Flagship First boarding pass. When her turn came, she stepped forward and handed the slip of cardstock to Sarah.

Sarah scanned the barcode, then looked up at the name printed on the screen:

COLEMAN/ZARA MS

SEAT: 2A

Sarah froze for half a second. A slow, warm smile of instant recognition lit up her face.

“Welcome back, Miss Coleman,” Sarah said gently, handing the pass back with deep respect. “It’s wonderful to see you again.”

“Thank you, Sarah,” Zara replied softly. “It’s good to be back.”

Zara walked down the carpeted jet bridge, stepping through the main door of the Boeing 777.

Standing in the forward galley, crisp in her wine-red neck scarf and tailored uniform, was Senior Flight Attendant Elizabeth Hart.

Elizabeth’s eyes widened slightly, her smile radiant as she stepped forward. “Miss Coleman! Welcome aboard Flight 212.”
