Chapter 3 - The Call on the BridgeThe First Class cabin fell into a silence so profound that the soft hiss of the air vents sounded like a gale force wind.

Richard Bennett dropped his newspaper completely into his lap. His mouth opened slightly as he watched the Regional Airport Director—a man whose face appeared regularly in New York business journals—standing submissively before a teenager in sneakers.

Zara took the black handset from Director Cruz.

“Dad?” she said into the receiver.

“Z,” Marcus Coleman’s voice filled her ear, clear and steady. “Director Cruz is there?”

“Yes.”

“Good. Give the phone back to him for five seconds.”

Zara handed the handset back to Cruz.

Cruz placed it to his ear. “Mr. Coleman. I’m on site.”

“Raymond,” Marcus said quietly. “Flight 212 is grounded until further notice. The aircraft lease for N792AA is being temporarily suspended under Section 4 of our commercial carrier agreement due to an unresolved security compliance issue in the First Class cabin.”

Director Cruz felt a cold sweat break out along his collar. Suspended lease. If Coleman Aerospace pulled the lease on that 777, the entire transatlantic schedule for the airline’s East Coast hub would collapse like a house of cards within two hours.

“I understand, Mr. Coleman,” Cruz said, his voice trembling slightly. “How would you like us to resolve the compliance issue?”

“My daughter was assigned Seat 2A,” Marcus said. “She paid for Seat 2A. A passenger named Richard Bennett is currently occupying it, refusing to move, and asserting that she does not belong in that cabin.”

Cruz’s eyes snapped toward 2A.

He stared directly at Richard Bennett, his expression hardening into pure, unadulterated steel.

“I understand completely, sir,” Cruz said. “We will resolve it immediately.”

“I’m holding,” Marcus said.

Cruz handed the phone back to an aide and turned to the four Port Authority officers standing behind him.

“Officers,” Cruz commanded, his voice echoing sharply into the cabin. “Board the aircraft. Remove the individual in Seat 2A.”

Richard Bennett froze. His face went from pale to a deep, dangerous crimson. He stood up instantly, stepping out into the aisle, adjusting his jacket with frantic, angry gestures.

“Now hold on just a minute!” Richard shouted, pointing a finger at Cruz. “Do you know who I am?! I am Richard Bennett! Bennett Strategic Holdings! I am a top-tier global elite flyer with this airline! I have three million miles—”

“Mr. Bennett,” Director Cruz interrupted, stepping into the cabin until he was three inches from Richard’s chest. “You are currently trespassing on private property.”

Richard blinked, stunned. “What? I have a ticket!”

“Your ticket was canceled ninety seconds ago,” Cruz replied flatly. “Your frequent flyer account has been flagged for audit, your baggage is currently being pulled from the forward cargo hold, and if you do not step off this aircraft in five seconds, these officers will place you in handcuffs for interfering with flight operations.”

A collective gasp rippled through First Class.

The woman in 3F pulled out her phone to take a video. The venture capitalist in 1D quietly put his iPad away, staring in absolute awe.

Richard looked frantically around the cabin, looking for support. He looked at Elizabeth Hart.

Elizabeth met his gaze with an icy, unwavering stare. “I advised you to move to 2B, Mr. Bennett.”

Richard turned to Zara. She was standing quietly beside the galley bulkhead, her burgundy bag over her shoulder, watching him with the same impassive, unbothered expression she had maintained from the beginning.

“You...” Richard stammered, his arrogance finally cracking open to reveal sheer panic. “Who are you?”
