Chapter 13: The Final Gathering
One week later, a public press conference was held at the city magistrate’s hall. The room was packed with hundreds of journalists, former investors, and members of the public.
Julian stood at the podium alone. There were no polished marble floors, no crystal chandeliers, no champagne flutes.
"For decades, the name Vane was synonymous with prestige and financial power," Julian spoke into the bank of microphones. "Today, I am here to tell you that the foundation of that power was a crime. My father, Arthur Vane, stole this legacy through arson, violence, and systematic deceit."
He paused, looking directly into the primary news camera.

"Effective immediately, all remaining assets of Vane Holdings are being placed into a court-monitored restitution trust. The lands stolen in 1985 will be returned to the surviving heirs of the original bloodline, led by Maeve Vane. I have resigned all positions, surrendered my fortune, and will cooperate fully with federal prosecutors regarding my own legal liabilities."
A chorus of chaotic questions erupted from the press, but Julian simply stepped back from the podium, turned, and walked out the side door.
