Chapter 15 - The Symphony of the UnbrokenThe note didn't waver.

It rang clear, pure, and rich, vibrating through the wooden floorboards, passing into Leo's hands, echoing off the high glass windows, and soaring out over the city below.

Clara closed her eyes, letting her left hand slide down the fingerboard.

The music came back not as a memory of pain, but as a flood of pure, unadulterated joy. Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1 flooded the room, every note a testament to the long, dark road she had walked—from the cold marble floor of the St. Regis Ballroom to the dark alleys of the East River, from the shadow of her brother's cage to the freedom of her own two feet.

Leo sat quietly beside her, his small face lit by the warm winter sun pouring through the glass, listening to his mother's daughter play the song she had been born to sing.

Out in the hallway, Dr. Sarah Aris stood near the door, a small, tearful smile on her face as she listened to the music fill the entire floor. Staff members, researchers, and recovering patients paused in the corridors, turning their heads toward the sound, pulled together by a melody that felt like healing itself.

When the final note faded into the quiet afternoon, Clara slowly lowered her bow.

She sat in the silence for a long moment, her chest rising and falling, her hand resting gently on the wooden neck of the cello.

Leo looked up at her, a wide, beautiful smile breaking across his face.

"That was pretty good," the boy said plainly.

Clara let out a bright, genuine laugh—a sound so full of warmth and freedom that it shattered the last lingering shadows of the past four years. She reached down, pulled Leo up onto her lap, and wrapped her arms tightly around him, pressing a kiss into his dark hair.

"Come on, little brother," Clara murmured softly, looking out at the city sparkling in the sunlight. "Let's go home."

They stood up together—sister and brother, hand in hand, stepping forward into a bright, unbroken future, leaving behind the ice and the marble forever.
