Chapter 15 - The Final TrapJulian Vance’s smile didn't fade, but his eyes turned as cold as broken ice. "Indictment? I assume you mean for young Dominic and the Mercer girl. Sad affairs, both of them. Greed gets the better of weak minds."

"Dominic was weak, yes," I agreed pleasantly, swirling the water in my glass. "Which is why he kept meticulous digital records of every private meeting he held with you at your estate in Newport."

A faint, subtle murmur rippled through the surrounding crowd of executives.

Julian laughed smoothly, though his knuckles turned white against his champagne glass. "I have no idea what nonsense a desperate criminal might fabricate to reduce his prison sentence, my dear. I am a legitimate businessman."

"You were," my father added, stepping beside me. "Until seven o'clock tonight, when Vale Global completed the acquisition of eighty-two percent of Apex Logistics' outstanding institutional debt."

Julian froze entirely. "What did you say?"

My attorney, Arthur Sterling, stepped forward out of the crowd, opening a leather binder for the surrounding press and executives to see.

"Apex Logistics secured its recent expansion capital using convertible bond notes issued through Deutsche Private Bank," Sterling stated loudly. "At six-thirty PM, Vale Global purchased those notes in full. As of fifteen minutes ago, due to material breaches of federal compliance and corporate espionage clauses, Vale Global has declared those notes in immediate default."

Julian’s face went completely gray. "You... you can't default those notes! That requires board authorization!"

"My daughter is the board, Julian," Charles Vale said, his voice dropping into a register of absolute, terrifying finality. "And as the principal receiver of Apex Logistics, her first corporate act is to freeze all trading on your stock, seize your fleet accounts, and hand your personal communications over to the Department of Justice."

Four federal agents in dark suits pushed through the crowd of stunned billionaires, stepping directly behind Julian Vance.

"Julian Vance," the lead agent declared, pulling out a warrant. "You are under arrest for corporate espionage, conspiracy to commit federal wire fraud, and illegal obstruction of justice."

The champagne glass slipped from Julian Vance’s hand, crashing against the marble floor and shattering into a hundred glittering pieces—exactly like the empire he had spent thirty years trying to build.

I stood before him, calm, victorious, and completely untouched by the debris.

"Enjoy your evening, Mr. Vance," I whispered softly. "The Vale family sends its regards."
