Chapter 16 - The Fall of the Vance Syndicate

The arrest of Samuel Vance at the abandoned freight depot sent shockwaves through Guanajuato's legal and political circles. Within forty-eight hours of the sting, the State Attorney General’s office, in coordination with federal prosecutors, executed fifteen simultaneous search warrants across León, Guadalajara, and Querétaro.
The evidence captured inside the black plastic case—specifically Elena’s handwritten ledger cross-referenced with the digital archives on the hard drive—provided the exact financial map federal auditors had spent years trying to build.
Sitting inside Prosecutor Gomez's office two days later, Roberto and I reviewed the official indictment paperwork.
"Samuel Vance didn't hesitate to cut a deal once he realized he was facing thirty years for federal racketeering and attempted murder," Prosecutor Gomez explained, sliding a fresh set of documents across her desk. "He formally named Hector Vance as the mastermind behind the illegal freight network. Federal agents arrested Hector at his estate in Guadalajara early this morning."
"And Patricia?" I asked, looking up from the pages.
Gomez smiled grimly. "Patricia's legal team abandoned her the moment her connection to the Vance syndicate became public record. Her trial has been expedited. With her taped confessions, the forged power-of-attorney documents, and Samuel Vance's direct testimony, she is facing a minimum of twenty-five years without parole for aggravated child endangerment, extortion, and conspiracy to commit grand fraud."
"What about my daughter?" I asked quietly. "Does she have to testify in court?"

"Because of the airtight digital recordings you made the morning you came home, the judge has ruled that Sofia’s direct testimony will not be necessary," Gomez said, her tone softening into deep respect. "Her videotaped deposition is already admitted into evidence. You spared her from having to face Patricia across a courtroom."
A profound relief washed over me. The legal net that had been closing around my home for years had finally snapped shut on the people who built it.
