Chapter 20 - The Road AheadLater that afternoon, after the graduation party at our house had winding down, Sofia and I walked out to the front driveway.

Parked near the curb was a bright red sedan—a graduation gift I had purchased for her using the earnings from my successful dispatch business.

"It's yours, mija," I said, handing her the fresh set of shiny chrome keys.

Sofia gasped, running her hand over the polished hood of the car. "Dad... this is too much!"

"You're going to university in the fall," I said with a laugh. "You need a reliable ride. And unlike my old freight trucks, this one comes without any long-distance routes attached."

She threw her arms around my neck, hugging me tightly. "Thank you, Dad. For everything."

"You earned it, Sofia," I whispered back.

She stepped into the driver's seat, started the engine, and adjusted the side mirrors. Before she pulled out of the driveway to take her high school friends for a celebratory drive around the city, she looked through the open window at me.

"Are you going to be okay here alone for an hour, Dad?" she teased with a bright laugh.

"The doors are locked, the cameras are running, and I have the remote," I joked back, tapping my phone. "Go enjoy your afternoon."

I stood on the paved walkway, watching as her car drove smoothly down the quiet suburban street, bathing in the bright afternoon sunlight.

The dark highway was long behind us. The silence inside our house was no longer a threat—it was just the quiet, beautiful sound of a home where love had won.

Would you like me to write a short epilogue showing Sofia's first day as a practicing attorney years in the future?
