Chapter 11 - The Fall OutThe ink on the settlement papers had barely dried before the fallout hit Trent with brutal velocity.

When he stepped out of the high-rise law office into the dry Arizona heat, his former life was officially reduced to zero. His sports car was gone, his credit cards were canceled, and the three rental houses his family had stolen to secure their future were now legally titled to my firm.
He returned to the budget motel in Tempe, where Brooke was sitting on the edge of the bed scrolling through social media on her phone.
"Did you get the money?" Brooke asked, barely looking up as he pushed the door open. "I found a three-bedroom rental in North Scottsdale, but they need a five-thousand-dollar security deposit by five o'clock."
Trent stood in the doorway, looking at her with hollow, bloodshot eyes. "There is no money, Brooke."
Brooke's thumb froze on her screen. She slowly looked up, her brow furrowing. "What do you mean there's no money? What about the settlement?"
"Harper had full records of every transfer," Trent said, his voice dropping into a flat, raspy whisper. "She caught the wire transfers to your account. She caught the LLC setup. Her lawyers gave me a choice: sign over everything and transfer the Mesa houses to her company, or go to federal prison for wire fraud and forgery."
Brooke stared at him, her face draining of color. "Wait... what about the Mesa houses? Your mom said those were worth over six hundred thousand dollars!"
"They belong to Harper now!" Trent yelled, his composure snapping as he slammed his fist against the motel wall. "She took everything! The house, the Mercedes, the rental properties, my savings! I have nothing!"
Brooke stood up slowly from the bed. The affectionate, attentive girlfriend he had bragged about to me instantly vanished, replaced by a cold, calculating stranger.
"So... you don't have a house in Paradise Valley?" she asked softly.
"No!"
"And you don't have an income?"
"Harper canceled my allowance!" Trent stammered, taking a step toward her with desperate hands raised. "But babe, listen to me... I can get a job! I can work! We can get a small apartment until—"
"A small apartment?" Brooke let out a bitter, mocking laugh, picking up her cheap tote bag from the nightstand. "Trent, I am twenty-four years old and pregnant. I am not living in a studio apartment with a guy who earns twelve hundred dollars a month as an admin clerk and owes half a million dollars in legal fees!"
"Brooke! Please!" Trent begged, reaching for her arm. "I gave up my entire life for you!"
May you like
"You didn't give up anything for me!" Brooke snapped, shoving his hand away with absolute disgust. "You lied to me! You told me you were a wealthy investor who owned a tech company! You were just a leech living off your wife's hard work!"
She grabbed her phone, pushed past him into the sunlit parking lot, and slammed the motel door behind her, leaving Trent standing alone in the quiet room.
