Chapter 7 - The Audit ExpandsWhile Trent was navigating the bitter reality of a budget motel on the outskirts of Phoenix, I was sitting in the executive conference room of Lawson Enterprise Solutions alongside Arthur Pendelton and a team of four forensic accountants.

The long oak table was covered in high-definition monitors, color-coded spreadsheets, and thick stacks of subpoenaed bank records.
"Harper, take a look at this," Arthur said, tapping his pen against a glowing digital ledger on the central screen. "When we pulled the full five-year audit for G&W Luxury Living LLC, we found something even more egregious than the three rental properties in Mesa."
I leaned forward, sipping my black coffee. "What did you find?"
"Trent wasn't just funneling your $3,500 monthly transfers into the LLC," Arthur explained, scrolling down the list of transactions. "Over the last twenty-four months, he was using his admin access on your domestic household portal to issue unauthorized commercial wire transfers directly from your executive contingency fund."
"How much?" I asked, my voice deadly quiet.
"An additional $185,000," Arthur revealed. "He forged your digital approval token using your saved credentials on the home computer. He listed the wires as 'Vendor Security Retainers' for property maintenance."
I closed my eyes for a brief second, feeling a cold, sharp rage settle deep in my bones.
Five years. For five years, I had believed I was married to a gentle, unassuming man who simply lacked business ambition. In reality, I had been sleeping next to a calculated corporate predator who viewed my hard-earned company as a personal piggy bank for his entire extended family.
"And where did that $185,000 go?" I asked, opening my eyes.
Arthur pulled up a secondary corporate filing. "Gloria and Walt didn't just buy rental houses, Harper. They used that money to fund a high-stakes day-trading account under Walt’s name—and they lost over $110,000 of it in bad options trading six months ago."
I let out a short, cold laugh. "So they embezzled my money, gambled it away on the stock market, and then had the audacity to send me a text message demanding I keep funding their lifestyle?"
"Precisely," Arthur smiled, his eyes glinting behind his wire-rimmed glasses. "And because Trent used forged digital tokens on commercial corporate accounts, this crosses the line from a civil divorce dispute into federal wire fraud and bank identity theft. The U.S. Attorney's Office in Phoenix has already expressed interest in the file."
"What are our next steps?" I asked, standing up and buttoning my blazer.

"We file a formal motion for Emergency Summary Judgment on the marital property," Arthur stated smoothly. "We attach the forensic audit to the court record. By Monday morning, Trent won't just be facing a divorce—he'll be facing a potential criminal indictment if he doesn't settle on our exact terms."
"Good," I said, looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows toward the Phoenix skyline. "Make sure his lawyer receives the full binder by five o'clock today."
