Chapter 13 - The Unbroken CircleIn the spring of 2030, Calvin and I took Maya and Nora on a week-long road trip down the Oregon coast, stopping at a small, quiet coastal cemetery overlooking the Pacific Ocean near Cannon Beach.

There, nestled beneath a towering Sitka spruce tree, sat a simple granite headstone marked: Eleanor Miller — 1978–1998 — Beloved Mother.
It was my biological mother's grave.
For thirty-two years, no flowers had been placed on the grass. The Vance Trust had buried her under a private plot agreement, keeping her name hidden behind corporate archives.
I knelt on the damp green moss, holding a bouquet of fresh white lilies. Maya and Nora knelt beside me, their little hands gently smoothing the rain-washed stone.
"Hi, Mom," I whispered into the salt-scented sea breeze. "I brought your granddaughters."
Calvin stood behind us, resting his heavy hand gently on my shoulder, his shadow shielding us from the wind.
"We brought her home, Clara," Calvin said softly.

I placed the lilies against the stone base. The ocean waves crashed rhythmically against the black rocks three hundred feet below, sending white spray high into the clear air.
There was no sadness left in the earth. The girl who had been hidden away in 1998 had brought her mother's memory back into the open air, where it would rest in the light forever.
