Chapter 7 - The Eviction of a GhostFrom the bedroom, a tiny voice broke through the low hum of radios and heavy bootfalls.

"Mommy?"

I turned instantly, walking back into Paisley's room. She was sitting up in the massive bed, clutching her blanket to her chest, her big brown eyes wide with terror as she saw armed tactical officers guarding the door.

"It's okay, baby," I said quickly, sitting on the edge of the mattress and pulling her into my arms. "It's okay. You're safe."

Ethan walked into the room, stepping carefully over the threshold. The six-foot-four billionaire, who regularly commanded corporate boardrooms worth tens of billions, knelt beside the small bed. He looked down at Paisley with an expression of pure, unadulterated tenderness that I hadn't seen on his face since we were kids.

"Hello, little one," Ethan said softly, his voice dropping into a gentle cadence. "I'm your Uncle Ethan."

Paisley blinked away her tears, looking at his sharp suit and then at me. "Mommy... who is he?"

"He's my brother, sweetheart," I whispered, kissing her forehead. "Your uncles are here. Nobody is ever going to hurt you again."

Lucas, my youngest brother—the cyber genius—stepped into the doorway holding a sleek glass tablet. "The house is completely cleared, Ethan. Alistair's personal accounts have been liquidated to cover the emergency trust we just created for Paisley. He has zero dollars and zero credit."

Ethan stood up, his face hardening back into stone. "Where is he?"

"Team Bravo is holding him in the driveway," Lucas replied with a faint, cold smirk.

"Bring my niece's shoes," Ethan said to me. "We're leaving."

I gently helped Paisley put on her sneakers and wrapped her in a warm jacket. As I carried her down the ruined marble stairs, the estate was bathed in the red and blue strobing lights of state police cars, federal transport vans, and three blacked-out military helicopters idling on the front lawn.

Alistair was standing near the fountain in handcuffs, surrounded by four state troopers and two federal agents. His face was pale, his eyes wild with a mixture of terror and utter financial ruin.

As we walked past him, Alistair lunged forward as far as the handcuffs allowed. "Victoria! Please! Talk to them! You can't leave me with nothing! This is my house!"

General Marcus Pembroke stepped directly into Alistair's path, his imposing presence towering over the broken CEO.

"You have ten seconds to turn around and get into that federal transport," Marcus said, his voice like grinding tectonic plates. "Or I will declare this property a federal tactical site and have you processed through a military tribunal."

Alistair looked at the four-star general, then at the black helicopters tearing up his manicured lawn, and finally at me.

I didn't say a single word. I simply adjusted Paisley in my arms, turned my back on him, and walked toward the primary helicopter.
