Chapter 24 - THE VIDEO GRACE CHOOSES TO WATCH

Grace was twenty-six when she asked for the full birthday recording.
Not Connor’s edited? His original.
Everything.
I offered to sit with her.
She chose therapist first.
Then asked me to join halfway.
I watched myself run through the gate.
Slap Sabrina.
Take scissors.
Pin her.
Cut her hair.
I wanted to look away.
Grace did not.
Then Connor:
They did even worse things to Grace.
Video ended.
Grace sat quietly.
“You were scary.”
“I know.”
“I was glad you came.”
“I know.”
“Both.”
“Yes.”
She paused.
“People online made you a hero.”
“I hated that.”
“You did save me.”
“I also did something wrong after.”
Grace nodded.
“That’s why I wanted the whole video.”
Not a clipped mother-avenger montage.
Not a cruel-aunt montage.
Whole sequence.
Context without excuse.
Then she watched some of Connor’s earlier recordings.
Stopped after dog bowl.
“No more.”
We stopped.
She authorized permanent sealing of the most humiliating child footage except where law required retention.
No documentary.
No training montage.
An anonymized child-safeguarding case could use transcripts.
Not her face.
May you like
Not her sobbing.
Her childhood would not become curriculum without boundaries.
