Chapter 19 - The Mechanic’s GardenAt seventy-five years old, I officially retired from all corporate duties at Apex Holdings.

Arianne was now the Chairperson of the Board, while Gideon stepped into his role as Executive Vice President, leading our green energy logistics initiatives across the country.
My days were simple and sweet. I spent my mornings tending to a large vegetable garden behind our harbor house and my afternoons tinkering with antique tractors in the workshop.
On a warm summer evening, our home was filled with laughter and music.
The Arianne Thorne Foundation was celebrating its tenth anniversary, having helped over ten thousand women and children secure safe housing and legal protection. Reporters, community leaders, and local families gathered on our sweeping lawn overlooking the ocean.
I sat in a comfortable wooden rocking chair on the porch, watching the crowd.
Gideon was standing near the dock, showing a group of young apprentices how to tune an outboard engine, his face alight with enthusiasm.
Arianne walked out onto the porch wearing an elegant emerald dress, holding two glasses of lemonade. She sat beside me, resting her head on my shoulder just like she used to do when she was a little girl.
"Look at them, Dad," she whispered softly, watching Gideon laugh with the apprentices. "Look at what we built."
"We didn't just build a company, Arianne," I said, taking her hand into my calloused palm. "We built a sanctuary."

She squeezed my hand tightly, tears of quiet happiness glistening in her eyes. "You saved my life that night, Dad."
"No, baby," I smiled, looking out at the calm ocean horizon. "You saved yourself. I just carried you home."
