Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

One year later.
The ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was decorated in warm, glowing lights and soft pink roses. But this wasn't a corporate gala, and there was no tension in the air. It was a celebration.
Arthur and Clara stood at the altar, exchanging vows surrounded by people who genuinely cared for them. Clara wore a stunning, simple white gown, her face glowing with genuine happiness.
Mia stood beside them as the flower girl, beaming with pride, completely free of the shadows of her past. When the officiant pronounced them husband and wife, Arthur kissed Clara, and the room erupted into joyous applause.
During the reception, Arthur picked Mia up, spinning her around the dance floor as she giggled uncontrollably. Clara watched them, her heart overflowing.

She remembered the terrified mother she had been that night in the ballroom, clutching her crying child, feeling powerless against the world. She had stood up to the monsters in the dark, and by doing so, she had dragged herself and her daughter into the light.
They were safe. They were loved. The echoes of that terrible slap were finally gone, replaced by the sweet, enduring sound of her daughter's laughter.
