Chapter 6 - The Facade Crumbles

The trial became the media circus of the decade. The Sterling family drama was splashed across every major network. Clara arrived at the courthouse in a sharp, modest navy suit, holding her head high. Arthur walked beside her, an impenetrable wall of support.
Inside the courtroom, Eleanor and Julian looked haggard. Their PR team had tried to spin the narrative, painting Clara as a bitter, gold-digging ex-wife teaming up with a jealous, estranged brother.
But Clara’s testimony was devastating.
She took the stand and calmly, clearly recounted the abuse she suffered during her marriage. She described finding the documents. And then, the prosecution played the video of the gala. The sound of the slap echoed through the quiet courtroom.
"She struck a six-year-old child because she felt her power slipping," Clara testified, looking directly at the jury. "She was terrified of the truth."
Julian’s lawyer tried to object, tried to rattle Clara, but she remained steadfast. Then came the undeniable proof. The judge had mandated the DNA test.
The courtroom held its breath as the results were read aloud by a court-appointed geneticist.

Chaos erupted in the gallery. Cameras flashed against the courtroom doors. Julian slumped in his chair, burying his face in his hands. Eleanor let out a wavering, pathetic sob. The empire she had lied, cheated, and abused others to build had evaporated in a single sentence.
