Chapter 36

CHAPTER 36 — The Mediterranean Blueprint
The United States was no longer safe, and it was no longer her battlefield. Within forty-eight hours, Valeria landed at the Málaga airport in Spain. The air was warm, smelling of salt and expensive fuel, a stark contrast to the freezing winds of Chicago.
Victor was waiting for her outside the terminal, leaning against a dark armor-plated sedan.
"You shouldn't have come alone," Victor said, taking her bag. "Your father has already deployed a recovery team to Madrid. He knows you have the master keys to the Iron Ledger."
"I’m not alone. I have you," Valeria said, looking him dead in the eye. "But let’s establish one rule, Victor. If you lie to me, even once, I will feed your identity to the Interpol division in Lyon before the sun sets."

Victor let out a soft, appreciative laugh. "Fair enough. Welcome to the real game, Valeria."
As they drove down the coastal highway toward Marbella, the blue waters of the Mediterranean stretched out infinitely to their left. But Valeria wasn't looking at the scenery. She was studying a digital map of a heavily fortified compound tucked into the hills of the Sierra Blanca mountains.

"Ofelia is staying at the Villa de Cortijo," Victor explained, tapping the navigation screen. "It’s heavily guarded by a private security firm run by former European intelligence officers. She’s meeting with the primary liquidators of the Iron Ledger tomorrow night. If they sign the transfer papers, three billion dollars in dark assets will disappear into Swiss crypto-vaults. Your father’s empire will be destroyed, and you will be left holding the legal liability in America."
"Then we don't let them sign," Valeria said, her fingers tightening around her phone. "We intercept the meeting."
