CHAPTER 39 — The Global Fracture

By noon the next day, the world was burning.

The "Marbella Leaks" dominated every television screen, news site, and financial ticker from Wall Street to Tokyo. The names of hundreds of politicians, elite executives, and dirty prosecutors were plastered across the internet.

In Chicago, Ernesto Salgado was arrested by federal marshals on the steps of his own courthouse, surrounded by a wall of flashing cameras. He looked directly into the primary lens, knowing his daughter was watching from across the ocean, his face completely expressionless as the metal handcuffs snapped shut for the final time.

Valeria stood on a cliffs-edge road overlooking the Mediterranean, her wet hair clinging to her face as the storm finally passed, leaving behind a pale, quiet sunrise.

Victor stood beside her, his phone buzzing continuously with alerts from intelligence contacts around the world.

"You did it," Victor said, his voice holding a genuine sense of awe. "The Iron Ledger is completely shattered. There’s nowhere left for Ofelia to run, and your father’s network is entirely liquidated. You are officially the most dangerous woman alive, Valeria."

"I don't want to be dangerous, Victor," she said, looking out at the open water. "I just wanted the truth."

"The truth has a cost," Victor reminded her softly, handing her a final, sealed envelope from his pocket. "This was recovered from Ofelia’s safe before the guards woke up. It’s the final, unredacted page of the ledger. The one your father tried so desperately to delete before the broadcast."
