Chapter 40

CHAPTER 40 — The Open Horizon

Valeria slowly tore open the envelope. The paper inside was crisp, formal, and carried the official seal of an elite international banking cartel based in Zurich, Switzerland.
Her eyes scanned the single line of printed text, and for the first time in years, her breath completely stopped in her throat.
The master account of the entire Iron Ledger—the core fund that controlled the three billion dollars, the fund that had financed her husband, her father, and the entire global network—wasn't opened by her grandfather or her father.
The account had been opened in 1992.
And the sole legal beneficiary listed on the document, authenticated by a biometric signature that matched her own perfectly, was: Valeria Salgado.
She wasn't the victim of the family empire. She was the absolute owner of it. Every crime, every asset seizure, every blood-stained dollar had been done in her name, legally automated to transfer into her control upon her thirtieth birthday. Which was exactly twenty-four hours away.
Her phone began to ring. It wasn't an encrypted number. It was a direct video call from an anonymous server in Switzerland.
Valeria looked up at the vast, empty horizon of the sea, the wind howling around her. She looked down at the paper, then at the vibrating phone in her hand.
Slowly, her finger hovered over the green button.

She took one deep, steady inhale, her hands completely motionless, never to tremble again.
She pressed the screen.
