Chapter 14: Reclaiming the Estate

Three months later, the morning sun broke brightly over the grand iron gates of the Vance Estate.

A large moving truck sat parked in the circular driveway. Emily stood on the front lawn, watching workmen remove the heavy mahogany furniture and extravagant portraits that Victor had selected over the years. Beside her stood Rosa, dressed in a sharp business suit, carrying a folder of architectural blueprints.

"Are you sure you want to tear down the East Wing?" Rosa asked, looking up at the sprawling stone mansion.

"I don't want a single room in this house to look the way it did when he lived here," Emily replied firmly. "The foundation is being completely restructured. By next year, this won't be a private residence anymore."

Following the conclusion of the trial, Emily had liquidated Victor’s seized assets and merged them with her own fortune to establish the Lid of Hope Foundation—an organization dedicated to providing legal aid, safe housing, and emergency support for victims of domestic abuse and coercive control.

"And your appointment as Executive Director is officially finalized," Emily added, turning to Rosa with a warm smile. "The board approved it unanimously yesterday."

Rosa looked at her in surprise, tears welling in her eyes. "Emily... I was a maid. I don't have a background in managing a multi-million-dollar foundation."

"You had the courage to raise a crowbar when fifty people in suits stood by and did nothing," Emily said gently, placing a hand on her shoulder. "You have the only qualification that truly matters: empathy and unwavering strength. I couldn't ask for a better partner."

Together, they walked up the front steps into the bright, sunlit hallway of the house—no longer a place of secrets and fear, but the starting point for countless second chances.
