Chapter 7 - THE BROTHER WITH NO BIRTH RECORD

The fourth man called himself Alexander.

No birth certificate carried his name.

No clinic record documented his delivery.

He had been created outside the official Bennett program.

Not as a biological brother, but as the final perfected duplicate.

Dr. Grant had selected him at sixteen because his bone structure resembled Adrian’s. Years of surgery, hormone treatment, voice training, and behavioral conditioning completed the transformation.

Alexander could pass as Adrian to strangers, cameras, and most corporate systems.

Unlike Nathan and Adam, he had no Bennett blood.

That made him disposable.

It also made him loyal only to money.

Detective Ortiz traced Margaret’s stolen wheelchair to a private ambulance that left the hospital garage under Adrian’s forged authorization.

The ambulance disappeared near an abandoned Bennett insurance archive on the coast.

Adrian, Nathan, Claire, Jonah, and federal agents traveled there before dawn.

Nathan’s restraints had been removed only because he knew the old facility.

Charles had brought him there repeatedly as a child.

“What happened inside?” Adrian asked.

“They taught me your life.”

Nathan stared through the vehicle window.

“Your schools. Your friends. The scar on your knee. The way you held a glass when Father entered a room.”

“You knew more about my childhood than your own.”

“I was not allowed one.”

The insurance archive stood beneath a cliff beside the ocean.

Rows of paper policies filled underground rooms protected from digital investigation.

Alexander had taken Margaret to the central vault.

Charles waited beside her.

Samuel Price stood at the document table.

Vanessa was also there.

She had escaped federal transport after one guard received a false order bearing Adrian’s identity.

Adrian watched the security feed.

Vanessa was no longer cooperating with Charles willingly.

Her wrists were tied.

“You promised immunity,” Charles told her.

“You promised Adrian would only lose the company.”

“You had every opportunity to stop.”

Vanessa looked toward Margaret.

“I know.”

Charles turned to Samuel.

“Prepare the Founder Trust.”

The trust contained nine billion dollars in hidden insurance reserves, medical patents, and political accounts.

Margaret had created the original structure decades earlier to compensate patients harmed by Bennett clinics.

Charles redirected the assets into private companies.

If Margaret signed the final release, Charles could transfer everything overseas.

If she refused, Alexander would impersonate Adrian and sign a declaration of her incompetence.

Nathan studied the old tunnels.

“There is a service shaft behind the policy storage.”

Adrian looked at him.

“Why help me?”

“Because Father left Adam in a morgue and plans to leave me in prison.”

“That is self-preservation.”

“It is a beginning.”

They entered through the shaft.

Inside the vault, Margaret sat upright despite the medication.

Charles placed a pen beneath her fingers.

“You can end this quietly.”

“I remained quiet for forty years.”

“And look what happened when you spoke.”

“My sons found each other.”

Charles laughed.

“They hate one another.”

Nathan stepped from the shadows.

“No. We hate you.”

Charles turned.

Adrian entered beside him.

For the first time, the brothers stood together.

Alexander approached from the opposite corridor wearing Adrian’s face.

Four versions of one life confronted each other: Adrian, Nathan, Alexander, and Adam’s photograph displayed on the insurance screen.

Charles looked almost proud.

“This is my greatest achievement.”

“You destroyed four men to protect accounts,” Adrian said.

“I created continuity.”

“You created prisoners.”

Samuel reached for the alarm.

Claire and federal agents entered from the service shaft.

Jonah restrained Samuel.

Vanessa kicked the weapon away from Alexander.

He grabbed her by the throat.

Adrian struck him.

Nathan pulled Margaret’s wheelchair behind the archive table.

Charles attempted to escape with the Founder Trust drive.

Margaret seized his coat.

“You are not leaving another room while someone else pays.”

Charles shoved her wheelchair.

Nathan caught it before she fell.

That movement decided him.

He released Charles and protected Margaret.

Adrian tackled his father against the policy wall.

Paper records exploded around them.

Charles reached for a hidden pistol inside his cane.

Vanessa saw it first.

She pushed Adrian aside.

The weapon fired.

The bullet struck Vanessa’s shoulder.

She fell.

Federal agents surrounded Charles.

Samuel surrendered.

Alexander attempted to flee through the ocean tunnel, but Jonah sealed the exit.

Within minutes, the Bennett conspiracy appeared finished.

Margaret refused an ambulance until she signed one document.

Not the Founder transfer.

A dissolution order.

Every hidden insurance reserve and medical patent moved into an irrevocable patient-restitution trust.

Charles watched nine billion dollars leave his control.

“You destroyed your children’s inheritance,” he said.

Margaret looked at Adrian and Nathan.

“I returned what was never ours.”

Charles was taken away in handcuffs.

Vanessa survived the gunshot and entered emergency surgery under guard.

As federal investigators opened the remaining policy files, Claire found a sealed envelope marked with Margaret’s maiden name.

Inside was an older version of the Founder Trust.

A fifth beneficiary appeared beneath the names of Adrian, Nathan, and Adam.

Claire stared at it.

The beneficiary was female.

CHARLOTTE BENNETT — FIRSTBORN CHILD

Margaret saw the name.

Her face drained of color.

Adrian turned toward her.

“Who is Charlotte?”

Margaret began to cry.

“My daughter.”

Adrian looked at Claire.

Claire shook her head.

Margaret continued.

“Not Claire.”

She pointed toward the final insurance photograph.

A woman stood beside Charles more than forty years earlier, holding a newborn.

The woman was still alive.

And according to the document, she owned controlling authority over the entire patient-restitution trust Margaret had just created.
