Chapter 20 - The Fortress of PeaceNight fell gently over Oakridge Manor.

The grand estate was quiet—not with the heavy, anxious silence of grief or threat, but with the tranquil, deep hush of a sanctuary at rest.
Mark walked through the quiet corridors of the second floor, his footsteps soft against the polished hardwood. He passed the balcony railing—the spot where fear had once tried to destroy his universe. He didn't flinch. He didn't feel rage or pain. He felt only the solid, unyielding truth of victory.
He walked down the grand marble staircase, stepping out through the rear French doors into the cool night air.
The moon shone brightly overhead, casting a silvery glow across the green lawn and the calm waters of the private lake.
Mark walked across the grass until he reached the base of the massive oak tree. The treehouse still stood, its cedar boards weathered to a handsome silver-gray, its sturdy iron railings locked firmly into the thick branches.
He climbed the wooden ladder, stepping inside the small sanctuary.
Mark sat down on the wooden bench, leaning his head back against the solid trunk of the tree, listening to the soft autumn breeze rustle through the leaves above. He pulled his phone from his pocket as it chimed with an incoming text message.
He opened the screen. It was a photo from Lily: her smiling face sitting at her desk in her dorm room, a hot mug of cocoa in her hand, her cello resting in its stand behind her.
Text from Lily: Goodnight, Dad. I'm safe, I'm happy, and I'm home.

Mark smiled—a deep, complete, soul-level smile that filled his chest with absolute warmth.
He looked out the treehouse window at the illuminated estate, then up toward the vast, star-filled sky. The long storm was over. The foundation held strong. And in the quiet sanctuary he had fought so hard to protect, a father finally rested in perfect peace.
