Chapter 18 - The Vaults of TruthBy late autumn of that year, my forensic firm completed its complete digital record migration, establishing an encrypted public database designed to help whistleblowers safely upload corporate fraud evidence without fear of physical or legal retaliation.

I spent an afternoon in our secure digital archives with Bridget Colton, reviewing the original case files from the Vance Financial Holdings investigation.
Bridget pulled up a high-resolution image of the physical steel case that had held the blue USB drive—the drive she had retrieved from behind the water tower brick while I lay in a hospital bed.
"It’s remarkable looking back at these files, Tessa," Bridget noted, tracing her finger over the digital timestamp. "When you hid this drive four months before the assault, did you ever doubt that you'd live to retrieve it?"
I looked at the screen, remembering the terrifying months I spent quietly copying ledgers while my father watched my every move.
"I didn't think about whether I'd survive, Bridget," I said softly. "I only knew that if I was going to fight, I was going to leave behind evidence so absolute that no amount of money, lies, or influence could ever erase it."
Bridget smiled—a sharp, brilliant expression.

"You built an unshakeable fortress out of raw truth, Tessa," Bridget said. "And you proved that light always cuts through the deepest dark."
"It does," I agreed. "As long as you're brave enough to strike the match."
