Chapter 15 - The First BirthdayA year passed like a beautiful, golden dream.

On a crisp March morning, Long Island Sound sparkled under a bright blue sky. Harbor House was decorated with pastel balloons, ocean-themed banners, and a massive three-tiered birthday cake shaped like a sailboat.

Julian, Grace, and Leo were now thriving one-year-olds, crawling across the soft grass of the front lawn, their cheerful giggles echoing over the sound of the waves. Julian had Clara’s bright auburn hair, little Grace had her grandfather’s keen brown eyes, and Leo possessed a bold, curious energy that kept everyone on their toes.

Graham sat in a wooden rocking chair on the porch, watching the toddlers play while sipping hot tea. "Julian would be so proud of you, Clara," the old man murmured, his eyes full of warmth.

Clara knelt on the grass, holding out her arms as little Grace took three wobbly, independent steps toward her before collapsing into a fit of giggles against her chest. Julian and Leo immediately crawled over, piling into their mother's lap.

Clara hugged all three of her children tightly, closing her eyes as the warm sunlight washed over them.

Twelve months ago, she had stood outside iron gates in the freezing rain with one suitcase and a broken heart, written off by a family that measured human worth in titles and fortunes.

Now, sitting on the porch of her father’s legacy, holding three healthy heartbeats against her chest, Clara knew she had won the only battle that ever truly mattered.
