Chapter 3 - The Boardroom ResponseInside the glass-walled executive conference room on the 42nd floor of Monroe AeroCapital’s headquarters in downtown Boston, the atmosphere was as cold as a frozen lake.

Celeste Monroe stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows, her arms folded across her chest, looking down at the misty expanse of Boston Harbor.

She was forty-one years old, wearing a tailored charcoal-grey pantsuit, her dark hair pinned back in a flawless, low chignon. Her face was serene, but her sharp grey eyes carried the quiet, formidable focus that had made her one of the most feared venture capitalists in global logistics.

Sitting around the polished walnut conference table behind her were six senior partners, three corporate attorneys, and her Chief of Staff, Marcus Vance.

On the center console of the table sat an encrypted speakerphone.

The line was connected directly to Arthur Sterling, who was standing in the jet bridge outside Gate 19 at Logan Airport.

"Celeste..." Arthur’s voice came through the high-definition speakers, laced with raw, unvarnished panic. "I am standing outside the aircraft right now. The flight attendant responsible has been removed, stripped of her credentials, and escorted off the premises by police. I have personally apologized to Eliza. She is safe, comfortable, and resting in seat 1A."

Celeste didn't turn away from the window. She took a slow, deliberate breath.

"Arthur," Celeste said, her voice quiet, smooth, and utterly devoid of anger. "What is the current time?"

Arthur hesitated over the phone. "It's... it's 2:15 PM, Celeste."

"At 2:00 PM," Celeste continued softly, "your senior vice president sent my office the final closing binders for the $1.2 billion credit facility. My legal team was forty-five minutes away from executing the wire transfers to your lender in London."

Arthur’s breath hitched over the speakerphone. "Celeste, please... I beg you. Do not let the foolish, arrogant actions of one misguided employee destroy a partnership that will save fifteen thousand jobs at this airline."

Celeste finally turned around, her dark eyes fixing on the speakerphone.

"One employee did not create this problem, Arthur," Celeste said, her tone cutting through the quiet room like a diamond blade. "A corporate culture created this problem. A culture where a twelve-year-old child sitting in a seat paid for with honest money is presumed to be a thief simply because your staff cannot imagine a young girl belonging in a position of comfort."

Marcus Vance, sitting at the head of the table, quietly opened a black leather binder and pulled out a fountain pen, waiting for his chairwoman's command.

"Celeste," Arthur pleaded, his voice breaking. "Tell me what you need me to do."

"I am boarding my private charter to Geneva in thirty minutes," Celeste stated flatly. "Flight 217 will depart on schedule. My daughter will arrive in Switzerland without further incident, accompanied by a senior executive officer of your choice who will remain in the cabin to ensure her absolute safety."

"I will fly with her myself!" Arthur blurted out instantly. "I am stepping onto that plane right now!"

"Good," Celeste said. "And as for the $1.2 billion credit agreement..."

The entire room of corporate lawyers held their breath.

"The agreement is paused," Celeste announced. "When I land in Geneva tomorrow morning, you, your Chief Financial Officer, and the Chairman of your Board of Directors will meet me in my suite at the Hotel des Bergues. You will present me with a comprehensive, mandatory overhaul of your customer service, bias-training, and passenger-rights protocols."

"We will have it ready," Arthur swore instantly. "I will draft it on the flight."

"If I am satisfied with the overhaul," Celeste added, "we will sign the papers. If I am not satisfied, Crown Atlantic will file for bankruptcy by noon on Friday."

Celeste tapped the screen on the conference table, ending the call.

She looked at Marcus Vance. "Marcus, prepare my flight plan for Geneva. And call my mother in Switzerland—let her know Eliza is on her way."
