Chapter 6 - The Arrival in Geneva

The sun was breaking in brilliant bands of gold and rose over the snow-capped peaks of the Swiss Alps as Flight 217 touched down on the tarmac of Geneva Airport.

The landing was so smooth the tires barely chirped against the runway. Inside the First-Class cabin, the soft chime sounded as the aircraft turned off the active runway toward the private terminal gate reserved for diplomatic and high-value charter arrivals.

Arthur Sterling was already standing in his crisp charcoal suit, adjusting his tie. His hands were no longer shaking, but his face carried the tired, solemn gravity of a man who had spent eight hours staring into the abyss of his company’s imminent destruction. On his lap rested the completed leather portfolio containing thirty pages of handwritten reform policies.

Julian, the purser, stepped forward to carefully lower Eliza’s French violin from the overhead compartment. He held the hard-shell case with both hands, presenting it to her as if it were a royal relic.

"Your instrument, Miss Monroe," Julian said with a warm, respectful bow. "It has been an absolute honor to serve you today."

"Thank you, Julian," Eliza said, slipping her arms into her navy cardigan and taking the case securely by its handle. "The tea was wonderful."

Arthur stepped into the aisle, gesturing for Eliza to walk ahead of him. "After you, Miss Monroe. My private airport liaison is waiting at the door to escort you through private customs."

As Eliza walked down the jet bridge, two uniformed Swiss airport officials and a woman in a tailored dark coat stepped forward.

"Miss Eliza Monroe?" the woman asked in a soft, polite French accent.

"Yes," Eliza replied.

"I am Madame Laurent, Chief of Operations for Geneva Diplomatic Services. Your mother, Madame Celeste Monroe, has arranged for your private escort directly to the Hotel des Bergues."

Arthur stepped beside Madame Laurent, pulling a silver pen from his pocket. "Madame Laurent, please ensure Miss Monroe’s transport is secured with two executive security vehicles. I will be following in a separate vehicle to meet Madame Monroe in the Presidential Suite."

Eliza looked back at Arthur one last time. "Good luck with your meeting, Mr. Sterling."

Arthur offered a small, deeply earnest bow. "Thank you, Miss Monroe. The future of our airline depends on it."
