Chapter 5 - Crossing the AtlanticAt thirty-eight thousand feet above the dark, cold expanse of the North Atlantic, Flight 212 glided smoothly through the night sky.

The cabin lights had been dimmed to a soft, amber glow.

In seat 1A, Eliza Monroe lay comfortably under a plush cashmere blanket, her seat converted into a fully flat bed. Her violin case remained securely stowed overhead, and her tablet rested on her lap, displaying the digitized orchestral score for Bach’s Violin Concerto in A minor.

Beside her, Arthur Sterling had spent six straight hours working under the narrow beam of his reading light. His notepad was now filled with fifteen pages of dense, detailed policy revisions—overhauling the airline’s passenger dispute protocols, eliminating arbitrary crew authority in seating verifications, and establishing a zero-tolerance policy for passenger discrimination.

Julian, the purser, walked softly down the aisle, holding two warm cups of chamomile tea. He set one down beside Arthur and placed the other gently on Eliza’s console.

"Thank you, Julian," Eliza whispered, looking up from her screen.

"You're very welcome, Miss Monroe," Julian replied quietly. "We will be initiating our descent into Geneva in roughly two hours."

Eliza looked out the double-pane window. Far below, through breaks in the midnight cloud cover, the distant, tiny lights of container ships navigating the Atlantic glittered like fallen stars.

She reached into her cardigan pocket, pulled out her phone, and opened her offline notes app.

She typed a single sentence into her private journal:

The world will try to tell you where you belong based on what you look like. Never leave the room until you've played your song.

May you like

Across the aisle, Arthur Sterling looked over, catching a glimpse of the young girl sitting peacefully in seat 1A—the seat that had nearly brought a global airline to its knees, and the seat that was now reshaping its future.

The giant aircraft banked gracefully to the east, chasing the first pale pink light of dawn rising over the distant snow-capped peaks of Europe.
