Chapter 12 - The Silent AllianceEleanor didn't scream. She didn't confront Julian when he walked downstairs twenty minutes later in his tailored suit, kissing her cheek before heading to his law firm. She forced herself to smile, to act normal, hiding the lethal fury burning in her heart.

The moment his car pulled out of the driveway, Eleanor called Detective Sarah Lin—the lead investigator who had refused to give up on Leo's missing person case four years ago.
An hour later, Detective Lin and three plainclothes officers arrived quietly at the Vance estate through the back entrance.
Sitting in the private library, Eleanor played a hidden audio recording from her phone. Before Julian had left, Eleanor had placed a voice recorder inside his study desk drawer, capturing a brief follow-up call where Julian confirmed his 11:00 PM meeting at Pier 8 to transfer two million dollars in untraceable bearer bonds.
Detective Lin listened to the recording, her jaw tight with righteous anger.

"This gives us full probable cause for a wiretap and federal arrest warrants," Detective Lin said, standing up. "Mrs. Vance, I need you to stay home with the children tonight. We will set a perimeter around Pier 8 and arrest Gideon and your husband during the exchange."
"No," Eleanor said, her voice dropping into an icy tone that surprised even the detective. "Julian trusts me. If he suspects I know anything, he’ll flee the country before you can link him to Gideon's operational network. I will act normally today. But you make sure that monster never sees the light of day again."
