Chapter 15 - The New BeginningAt 4:12 AM on Wednesday morning, the sound of a sharp, clear cry echoed through Delivery Room 4.

"It's a girl!" the doctor announced joyfully, lifting our baby into the warm light.

They laid her gently onto Savannah's chest. She was tiny, weighing just five pounds and eight ounces, with a tuft of dark hair and dark, curious eyes that opened slowly to look up at us.

I fell to my knees beside the hospital bed, wrapping my arms around both of my girls, tears streaming unchecked down my face.

"What should we name her?" I asked, my voice thick with emotion as I lightly touched the baby's tiny fingers.

Savannah looked down at our daughter, her face radiant with pure, untouched peace.

"Maya," Savannah whispered softly. "Maya Victoria Sterling. Because she represents our victory over the dark."

Two days later, we brought Maya home.

The apartment was quiet, filled with the warm golden sunlight of a San Diego afternoon. The dark memories that had lingered in the hallways—the harsh screams, the fear, the blood on the floorboards—were completely washed away, replaced by the soft breathing of our newborn daughter wrapped in her pink blanket.

I stood by the window overlooking the ocean, holding Maya against my chest as Savannah slept peacefully in our room.

My mother was behind iron bars, paying for every lie, every strike, and every stolen dollar. The silent record Savannah had kept for three years had not only brought down her tormentor, but it had saved our family and restored our freedom.

I looked down at Maya's small, sleeping face, kissing her soft forehead.

"No one will ever hurt you," I promised her silently in the afternoon sun. "You are safe now."

Here are Chapters 16 through 20, bringing the story to its complete, powerful, and peaceful conclusion.
