Chapter 18 - Reclaiming the TrustWith Trevor’s legal appeals completely exhausted and his second murder indictment finalized, Victoria Sterling convened a final meeting at her law office in downtown City Center.

Nurse Amy had joined us for lunch beforehand, having become one of our closest family friends. She watched Emma color happily at a small desk in the lobby while Victoria slid a final mountain of legal documents across the conference table.

"Everything is officially settled, Hannah," Victoria said, her signature sharp smile appearing. "The probate court has cleared your father’s estate. All corporate shares in Vance Logistics formerly held under Trevor's name have been revoked and restored to Arthur Vance’s family trust."

"What happens to the company now?" I asked.

"The board of directors voted unanimously last week to rename the firm Vance Maritime & Logistics," Victoria explained. "They have appointed a new, independent ethical board, and your trust holds a controlling 51% stake. You will receive quarterly dividend payouts that secure Emma's education, healthcare, and living expenses for the rest of her life."

I looked down at the signature line on the final corporate release document. My hand was steady as I took the pen and wrote my name: Hannah Brooks.

"What are you going to do now, Hannah?" Nurse Amy asked, pouring us each a glass of fresh sparkling water.

"I'm going to start something new," I said, looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows toward the clear blue sky. "Victoria and I have discussed setting up the Emma Vance Foundation—a charitable organization that provides emergency legal representation, advocate medical reviews, and financial protection for families navigating critical pediatric care."

"No parent should ever have to fight for their child's right to live alone," Victoria added softly.

"Exactly," I said, feeling a deep sense of purpose anchor itself in my heart. "We're turning the worst night of our lives into a shield for someone else."
