Chapter 19 - The SanctuaryEthan stepped closer, the cold wind blowing softly between them.

"I resigned as Chief Executive Officer of Whitmore Development yesterday," Ethan announced quietly.

Naomi blinked, genuinely surprised. "Ethan... your father's legacy—"

"My father's legacy was built on managing people, not letting a board of directors manage his soul," Ethan interrupted gently. "I appointed a professional management board to run the day-to-day operations. I kept a seat on the board, but I’m done living in boardrooms twenty hours a day."

He looked at her, his expression raw, honest, and completely unguarded.

"I bought a small timber property five miles down the road," he continued. "I’m going to build a furniture studio. Work with my hands. Live a life that isn't measured by stock values or society pages."

Naomi looked at him, seeing the free, quiet man who had once sat barefoot in her kitchen at midnight drinking chamomile tea.

"You really did make a better decision," she murmured, a soft laugh breaking through her lips.

"I did," Ethan said, his voice dropping into a tender register. "And I was hoping... if you're not too busy enjoying your quiet... maybe you’d let me make you a cup of tea tonight?"

Naomi looked down at the snow, then up into Ethan’s clear, steady gray eyes.

She didn't see an employer. She didn't see an heir. She saw a man who respected her strength, honored her silence, and loved her soul without ever asking her to hide who she was.

"I'd like that," Naomi said softly. "On one condition."

"Name it."

"You don't wash your own mug," she teased gently. "It ruins my routine."

Ethan laughed—a bright, warm sound that echoed through the quiet pine trees, cutting through the winter chill.
