Chapter 15 - The Unbroken CircleOne Year Later

Spring returned to Dallas in a radiant, golden burst of blooming wildflowers, warm sunshine, and clear blue skies.
On the private rooftop terrace of Emily’s Uptown penthouse, twenty close friends, colleagues, and family members gathered under a canopy of white canvas umbrellas for a quiet, joyful celebration.
It was the one-year anniversary of the opening of the Emily Carter Foundation. Over the past twelve months, the foundation had provided emergency shelter and legal aid to over three hundred women across North Texas.
The legal proceedings were officially concluded:
Linda Parker: Sentenced to twenty-eight years in state prison for Aggravated Kidnapping and Conspiracy.
Jason Parker: Sentenced to fifteen years in state prison for Felony Assault and Forgery.
Richard Parker: Sentenced to ten years in federal prison for Wire Fraud and Tax Evasion.
Edward Parker: Disbarred and sentenced to twelve years in federal prison for Judicial Corruption.
Inside the sunlit penthouse, soft music played while guests laughed and enjoyed fresh catered food.
Emily stood by the glass railing, wearing a bright yellow summer dress, her dark hair catching the warm breeze. She held a glass of sparkling water, looking out over the panoramic view of the city she loved.
Daniel and I walked out onto the terrace together, joining her at the railing.
"How are you feeling, sweet pea?" I asked, putting my arm around her waist.
Emily looked at me, then at Daniel, a deep, radiant, unshadowed smile lighting up her face.
"I feel free, Mom," Emily said, her voice ringing clear and strong. "Totally, completely free."
Daniel reached out, his large, scarred hand gently squeezing her shoulder. He wore a crisp dark suit over a white shirt, his short gray hair neatly trimmed, his dark eyes filled with absolute, unshakeable peace.
"You earned that freedom, Emily," Daniel said softly. "Nobody gave it to you. You fought for it."

I looked at the man I had once divorced, then at the daughter we had raised together. The circle was complete. The storm had cleared, leaving behind a fortress of iron, love, and unbreakable truth.
We raised our glasses together into the warm Texas sunshine, looking out over the city below—unbowed, unbroken, and forever whole.
