Chapter 9 - The Bail HearingAt three-thirty that afternoon, Courtroom 402 of the George Allen Courts Building in downtown Dallas was packed with press reporters, legal teams, and federal agents.

The news of the sudden, catastrophic collapse of the Parker real estate empire had broken across local news stations two hours earlier, sending shockwaves through the Dallas business community.

In the jury box sat six armed state marshals.

Behind the defense table stood Linda Parker, wearing a orange county detention jumpsuit over her disheveled clothes. Her hands and ankles were bound in heavy steel chains. Beside her stood Jason, his tuxedo replaced by identical orange scrubs, his swollen windpipe still showing dark red bruises where Daniel had pinned him sixteen hours earlier.

Sitting across the aisle in the front row of the gallery were Daniel, myself, and Agent Vance.

Emily remained safe at my apartment, resting under the care of a private security detail provided by Vance's agency.

Presiding over the emergency hearing was Judge Patricia Williams—a veteran state magistrate known throughout North Texas for her zero-tolerance stance on domestic violence and corporate fraud.

"Case 26-CR-9082," Judge Williams announced, her voice echoing sharply off the wood-paneled walls. "The State of Texas versus Linda Parker, Jason Parker, and Richard Parker. Charges include Aggravated Kidnapping, First-Degree Felony Assault, Forgery of Commercial Documents, and Wire Fraud."

Linda’s high-priced defense counsel stood up immediately. "Your Honor, my clients are prominent members of this community with no prior criminal records. We are requesting reasonable bail so they may prepare their defense—"

"Silence, Counsel," Judge Williams cut in, holding up her hand. She picked up the thick forensic folder provided by Dr. Thorne and the Texas DPS.

The judge spent three long minutes reviewing the high-resolution photographs of Emily’s bruised face, the forensic medical reports, and the recorded audio file captured by hotel security corridor cameras.

When Judge Williams looked up, her face was set in an expression of dark, unyielding disgust.

"I have reviewed the physical evidence," Judge Williams said, her tone cold enough to cut glass. "The court finds that the defendants engaged in a calculated, barbaric act of pre-planned physical torture against a helpless victim inside a locked room, accompanied by extensive financial fraud."

Linda leaned toward her attorney, whispering frantically, her chains clinking loudly. "Tell her about Edward! Tell her my brother is a judge!"

Judge Williams caught the movement and narrowed her eyes.

"Mrs. Parker," the judge said sternly. "If you are referring to former Judge Edward Parker of Tarrant County, you should be advised that he was arrested two hours ago by federal marshals in Fort Worth on eighteen counts of judicial bribery and official misconduct."

Linda went deathly still. All the color drained from her face, leaving her looking old, broken, and hollow.

"Regarding bail," Judge Williams continued, raising her wooden gavel. "Given the extreme violence demonstrated, the threat to the victim, and the vast financial resources available for flight, bail is hereby DENIED for all three defendants."

BANG!

The gavel struck the hardwood block with a resounding crash that echoed through the packed courtroom.

Linda let out a shrill, hysterical shriek as the marshals grabbed her arms, hauling her toward the holding cell door. Jason burst into loud, pathetic tears, reaching toward his father, who was being cuffed by two state troopers at the defense table.

I sat in the front row, holding Daniel's hand, watching the three people who had tried to destroy our daughter get led away in chains.
