Chapter 18 - The Last ThreadWhile Valenti was hauled away into federal custody, the threat was not entirely extinguished.

Two nights after the arrest at Grant Park, a rogue faction of Valenti’s enforcers—desperate men who knew their empire was collapsing—attempted a final, suicidal strike against the Fierro Estate.
It was 3:00 AM when the estate’s silent perimeter alarm tripped.
I woke instantly to the sound of Giovanni moving beside me. He was already out of bed, pulling on a black sweater, his movements calm and disciplined.
"Jessica," he said, his voice a low, steady hush. "Stay in the panic room with Lily and Mateo. Lock the heavy steel door behind you and do not open it until you hear my voice."
"Giovanni, please be careful," I pleaded, holding his arm tightly.
He kissed my forehead deeply. "Always, my love. Nothing touches my family."
I rushed into the adjoining nursery, gathering sleeping Mateo into my arms, while pulling a sleepy Lily by the hand into the concealed panic room behind the master closet. I locked the thick reinforced door and pulled my children close, listening to the muffled sounds beyond the walls.
Outside in the corridors, four armed intruders moved through the ground floor, expecting an easy target.
They were met by a phantom.
Giovanni moved through his house with absolute, terrifying mastery. Working seamlessly with Marcus and the estate security team, he neutralized the intruders one by one in the dark corridors—swiftly, silently, and with clinical precision—without firing a single round that might wake the children.
Within fifteen minutes, the entire squad of intruders was disarmed, bound, and kneeling in the subterranean garage, waiting for the arrival of local law enforcement.
Giovanni walked up the stairs, washed his hands, and opened the door to the panic room.
The moment the door slid open, Lily ran forward, wrapping her arms around her father's waist. "Daddy!"

Giovanni dropped to his knees, wrapping his strong arms around both of our children, pulling me into the embrace as well. He buried his face in my hair, breathing in the sweet scent of our home.
"It's over, Jessica," he whispered against my skin, his voice thick with profound relief. "It is truly, completely over."
