Chapter 13 - Inside the Archive

While security guards escorted the hysterical Margaret and Vanessa back upstairs to be placed under strict house arrest pending police arrival, Daniel, Emily, and Arthur stepped inside the newly opened vault.
The room was small, pristine, and entirely preserved from the dampness outside. In the center sat a polished mahogany desk holding a single, dust-covered leather journal, a locked steel box, and a series of sealed legal envelopes.
Emily walked slowly toward the desk, her fingers gently brushing off the layer of dust covering the journal. On the front cover, written in elegant gold lettering, were the initials: K.V.
"This was your mother's private room," Daniel said softly, standing beside her. "She locked this door the night before she was forced to flee."
Arthur Vance stepped closer, looking at the legal envelopes on the desk. He carefully picked one up, breaking the faded red wax seal. As his eyes scanned the old parchment, his stern expression melted into shock.
"My God..." Arthur murmured.
"What is it, Uncle?" Daniel asked, turning to him.
"This isn't just an estate inheritance document," Arthur said, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper. "This is a full criminal confession signed by my late brother—your father, Daniel—and witnessed by Margaret."
Emily stared at Arthur. "A confession?"
"Katherine didn't leave this house voluntarily," Arthur read aloud, his eyes racing across the lines of ink. "She discovered that Margaret and my brother were illegally liquidating offshore accounts belonging to the family foundation. When Katherine threatened to go to the federal authorities, they forced her out under threat of destroying her daughter—you, Emily."
Emily felt a tear slip down her cheek. All her life, she had wondered why her birth mother had given her away, why she had lived in obscurity while this massive family lived in unimaginable luxury. Katherine hadn't abandoned her; she had sacrificed her wealth, her status, and her name to keep her baby alive.
"And there's more," Arthur added, turning the page. "The diamond necklace... the one Vanessa tried to plant on you last night..."
May you like
"What about it?" Daniel asked sharply.
"It contains the access codes to the offshore accounts," Arthur revealed, looking up with wide eyes. "The diamonds are cut in a specific geometric pattern that acts as an optical key for a high-security swiss vault. Vanessa wasn't just trying to frame Emily... she was trying to steal those access codes before anyone realized what that necklace really was."
