Chapter 12 - The Collapse at the DocksThe rain hit the rusted corrugated roofs of the Pier 14 salvage yard with a deafening roar.

Inside the main office—a modified shipping container suspended over a pile of crushed sedans—Vance Miller sat with his boots kicked up on a steel desk, staring at his tablet screen. Beside him, two of his men were counting through a stack of loose bills.
"Transaction failed?" Miller growled, tapping the glass screen furiously. "What do you mean, 'account frozen by federal order'?"
"It means Julian Sterling’s checks aren't worth the ink they're printed with," a sharp, steady voice called out from the dark doorway.
Miller snapped his head around, his hand diving toward the holster under his arm.
Before his fingers could grip the handle, the heavy metal door was kicked inward with violent force. Three flashbangs bounced across the concrete floor, detonating in blinding white light and deafening thunder.
By the time the smoke cleared three seconds later, Miller’s two men were pinned face-down on the ground, their wrists bound in heavy zip-ties by Marcus’s tactical security personnel.
Miller himself was slumped back against his chair, staring up into the barrel of Marcus Cole’s sidearm.
Daniel stepped into the container, entirely unbothered by the ringing smoke in the air. He wore his tailored coat over his dark suit, carrying the heavy evidence bag in his gloved left hand.
"Julian Sterling didn't tell you, did he?" Daniel said, standing over Miller with quiet authority. "The Sterling Group’s corporate assets were frozen by federal injunction ninety minutes ago. Every offshore account connected to their trust has been sealed."
Miller swallowed hard, blood trickling from a small cut on his lip. "You can't do this, Vaughn. You're a civilian. You bring private security in here, it's illegal entry—"
"I don't need to break the law to destroy you, Vance," Daniel interrupted coldly. He dropped a thick folder onto the steel desk directly in front of the enforcer. "That is a full copy of your criminal record, along with financial logs linking your shell companies to Julian Sterling’s personal accounts. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney are waiting outside the front gates right now."
Miller’s face drained of color as he looked at the document.
"You have two choices," Daniel continued, leaning over the desk until he was inches from Miller’s face. "You can go to a maximum-security federal facility for twenty-five years on arson and corporate conspiracy charges. Or you can give me Julian Sterling’s location on tape right now, and my lawyers will ensure you spend your sentence in a medium-security wing."
Miller stared at Daniel’s unyielding gray-blue eyes, realizing in an instant that the man standing before him was far more ruthless than any street gangster in the South District.

"He's at the Sterling family estate in Northwood," Miller spat out frantically, his chest heaving. "He's packing the vault! He’s got a private helicopter scheduled to leave from the helipad at midnight!"
Daniel stood back up, adjusting his cuffs with cold precision. "Marcus. Hand him over to the federal agents."
